Backpacking to Ten Lakes in Yosemite- 3 days

July 23-25, 20109 (Starts Friday morning)

backpacking in yosemiteMake your own three day weekend! Ten Lakes is one of our favorite backpacking destinations in Yosemite. It's best to go as a three day trip, giving you a full day to relax and explore this amazing area.

The plan is to hike the 7 miles to the lakes the first day and set up our camp. After spending a great night out in the woods, we'll have a full, leisurely day to explore the area, hiking, scrambling over the boulders, and taking a dip in one of the refreshing lakes. After our second night in camp, we'll have to say good-bye to our camp and hike back to civilization.

The Trip:
The trip starts on Friday morning, but you'll have the option to meet in Yosemite the night before our trip. OAC will have car camping arranged for that night. Expect to be back at the cars around 4:00 on the third day.

Level of difficulty is 4 (on a scale of 1-10). It is rated like this because the trail to Ten Lakes is about 7 miles long, with a gradual gain over most of the distance. There is one significant climb and descent just before reaching Ten Lakes. The total elevation gain on the hike in is about 2500 feet, most of it coming from the last hill. The combination of the the elevation (7500'-9700') the weight of packs and the distance will challenge some people. The great thing about this trip is once you've made it to Ten Lakes, you can relax and enjoy two nights in the woods, and a full day without a pack on. Considering we have all day to hike into our camp, a rest day or easy hike day, and the last day being mainly downhill, most people would find the overall rating to be advanced beginner. Of course, it all depends on your individual fitness and experience level.

The Outdoor Adventure Club guides will be cooking up some great meals on the trip. Be ready to eat well as we spend the weekend in the woods, and let us know if you have any dietary considerations. We are happy to accommodate just about any diet.

A thorough trip description will be sent with your confirmation. The details will include when and where to meet, what to bring, and more of what to expect.
