Halloween Hiking, Camping, and Costumes Weekend at Pinnacles National MonumentOctober 26-28, 2012
During the day boys and ghouls of all levels will go through the park with the professional guides of the OAC. During the evenings, as the sun goes down and the wild animals come out, we will begin the festivities. On Saturday night, we will have a costume contest, tell spooky stories, and enjoy wonderful company around the fire.
Pinnacles is now open 24 hours a day which will allow us to take a night hike through the caves in hopes of seeing bats as theyventure out to feed! This is going to be a fun weekend, for sure!
Hiking information: The hiking in Pinnacles is unlike anywhere else. Our hikes will take us through the talus caves, around the rock formations, past Bear Gulch Reservoir, High Peaks, and the Balconies area. We will be hiking between 6 to 10 miles each day. All experience levels are welcome!
Along the way your Outdoor Adventure Club guide will show you the way, keep the conversation going, and serve up a great OAC lunch, too!
Camping information: The camping at Pinnacles is fun. There are coin-op hot showers and running water, and we'll be camping close to the cars. Bring your pillows, blankets, camp chairs, and anything else that makes your camping experience comfortable.
We've reserved a group campsite where the festivities will commence. What a killer way to finish your hiking day! Dress up in your costume (unless you have decided to hike in yours), have a drink, some excellent dinner prepared by your guides.
Park information: The park is home to raptors, bats, caves and som e of the most interesting rock formations. Pinnacles was formed by an ancient volcano. Rising out of the chaparral-covered Gabilan Mountains, are the spectacular remains of this volcano. Massive monoliths, spires, sheer-walled canyons and talus passages define millions of years of erosion, faulting and tectonic plate movement. Pinnacles National Monument is also a release site for the endangered California condor, and the birds can sometimes be seen from hiking trails throughout the park.
