Hike to Murietta Falls in the East Bay

February 26, 2012

Hiking to Murietta Falls in the East BayYou asked for a harder hike, and we are happy to oblige! The hike to Murietta Falls in the Ohlone Wilderness, near Livermore, is 12 miles long, and gains over 4,000 feet of elevation along the way. It's definitely not a good hike for new boots or people new to hiking as it is considered strenuous.

This is a tough but rewarding hike to the Bay Area's largest waterfall with amazing views on a clear day to Mt. Whitney, the Santa Cruz Mountains and the San Francisco cityscape. It boasts awazing twisted oak tress and deep canyons. This time of year we should be treated to seeing one of the longest waterfalls in the Bay Area and get a great workout as we burn off some calories. You'll definitely be ready to relax for a few minutes with your OAC hiking friends after this hike.

We will begin the hike at 9:00 a.m. We don't like to pin down a finish time for the hike, as some times the group will want to linger at lunch or take a side trip along the way. Generally hikes are finished by 3:00 p.m., though. After the hike we usually regroup for a beer, snack or ice cream to extend the day with OAC friends.

Along the way your Outdoor Adventure Club guide will show you the way, keep the conversation going, and serve up a great OAC lunch, too!
