GET FIT Hiking- Rancho San Antonio Open Space Preserve

February 26, 2011

Here's another one of the OAC's "Get Fit!" easy hikes. All of our Get Fit! hikes are designed to be a little shorter, and with fewer hills than our standard hikes. We take the pace on these hikes a little slower, too. If you want to get out and enjoy a nice hike in the woods, but are concerned about your experience or level of fitness, these Get Fit! hikes are just for you!

Today we'll be exploring Rancho San Antonio Open Space Preserve with an easy 5-mile loop. We'll hike along Permanente Creek shaded by coast redwoods and listen for quail running though the forest floor. We'll walk uphill to find brilliant views of Mt. Tam and Mission Peak. We may even be able to see San Francisco, Palo Alto, and the bridges across the bay. Then, we'll descend into a canyon filled with maple and bay trees.

The combination of low mileage, minimal elevation gain, and a slow and steady pace make this an easy hike. We have plenty of time to complete the hike, and no one will be in a hurry. We'll take time to rest, explore the flora and fauna and eat a great OAC lunch with new hiking friends.

Not sure if you can complete a five mile hike? Give us a call or email and we'll help you determine if this hike is right for you. If we are feeling especially good during the hike, we can easily extend the length, too.
