Paddling through Sea Caves and Kayak Sailing in Santa Cruz

July 21, 2012

kayaking in santa cruzJoin us as we paddle through the sea caves of Wilder Ranch and sail 4 miles downwind in our kayaks!

The combination of paddling the exposed California coastline and watching the abundant life makes for an awesome day. Along the way pass by secluded pocket beaches and sea caves not accessible from land. Birds, seals, otters, fish and other creatures abound.

Our journey starts at 9:00am at the Santa Cruz Wharf where we will meet and shuttle in a van to the put-in, Natural Bridges State Park. At Natural Bridges State Park, we will launch our kayaks from the beach and paddle up the coast to the sea caves and pocket coves of Wilder Ranch.

After paddling through ‘Hole in the Wall’ cave, we will enjoy a delicious lunch served by the Outdoor Adventure Kayaking in sea cavesClub on a secluded beach. Then we will hoist the kayak sails for an exhilarating 4-mile ride downwind, past Natural Bridges and Seal Rock back to the Santa Cruz Wharf. Yes, you can use a unique hand held sail to help your kayak glide. It’s really cool! We will reach the wharf at approximately 3:00pm.

The highlight of the day for many people is paddling through a tunnel in the rocky shoreline. It's not something you get to do every day!

This is an awesome kayaking trip for "gung-ho" paddlers with some experience. You don't have to be an expert paddler, but it is a good idea to have some experience paddling and be ready to paddle in the ocean. This is not a trip for first time kayakers. Single and double kayaks will be available. Let us know your preference when you sign up.

This trip is limited to 8 paddlers so sign up early!
