Evening Kayak Trip & Fireworks in Santa Cruz
July 4, 2011
Come out to Santa Cruz to celebrate the 4th of July in true OAC style! This trip has become an annual tradition for the Outdoor Adventure Club. You haven't seen fireworks like the ones you'll see at the public show in Santa Cruz from the perspective of a kayak.
As the sun is getting ready to set, we'll paddle out in single and tandem sea kayaks to watch the firework festivities from the water. Santa Cruz doesn't have an official fireworks display, but every year there's a plethora of "independent" pyrotechnic displays to enjoy. Santa Cruz also has much less fog than San Francisco, making fireworks viewing more fun!
The kayaking is open to all skill levels. Novice paddlers will be paired up and given tandem (2 person) kayaks for more stability. Experienced paddlers will be able to take out a single boat. Please let us know your experience level and if you’d prefer tandem or single when you sign up.
Come play with us in the water with sea lions, otters and harbor seals and celebrate the 4th! This trip will begin at 7:00pm at the Santa Cruz wharf where we will enjoy light snacks before the paddle and plan to paddle until approximately 10:00pm.

- Guided kayak tour of Santa Cruz Bay
- Carpool list so you can arrange rides to the trip

You'll need to bring:
A recommended gear list will come with your confirmed reservation, but you should generally be prepared with the following:
- Clothes appropriate for the weather
- Appropriate footwear (sandals with straps or sneakers - your feet may get wet)
- 2 liters of water with clip or tie to connect to boat
- Small pack for carrying extra clothing layers
