Rafting and Camping Weekend- South and Middle Forks American River

August 7-8, 2010

rafting trip on american riverBeat the heat this weekend with two days of rafting and camping on the American River!

We'll get you going on the Class III rapids of the South Fork on Saturday. After a great day on the river, we'll be ready for the Class III/IV rapids of the Middle Fork on Sunday. We'll run the classic rapids like Meatgrinder, Trouble Maker, and Chamberlain Falls.

On Saturday night we have a designated driver lined up to drive everyone into nearby Coloma for dinner in town and live music. It's going to be almost as much fun off the river as on the river!

The American is a rafting classic. Portions of the river are designated as Wild and Scenic, and the river lives up to its designation. Between the snow pack we've had this year, and the dam release on the Middle Fork, the river will be running strong! Towering Cliffs and 2,000 foot canyon walls make this one of the most beautiful Northern California river canyons.

The Trip:

The trip starts on Saturday morning as we meet and get geared up for our South Fork adventure. We'll get right on the river, as we tackle the Class 3 South Fork. Along the way, we'll stop for a great lunch on the river.

Saturday evening we're back in camp, sharing stories with OAC friends about the rapids of the day and rivers we’ve run in the past. We have a designated driver lined up to shuttle everyone into Coloma for some entertainment on Saturday evening, too! This is your chance to make some great friends with the club.

On Sunday morning, we'll shuttle up and head over to the Middle Fork, with its more challenging Class 4 rapids. You'll appreciate the warm-up day on the South Fork when you hit rapids like the famous Tunnel Chute! You'll have a full day of rafting on Sunday with awesome Class III and IV rapids. Between the rapids there are stretches of calmer water where you can go for a swim or have a water fight with neighboring rafts!
