Beginner Rock Climbing at Castle Rock State Park

Learn to rock climb with the Outdoor Adventure Club at Castle Rock State Park in the Peninsula! As seen on Bay Area Backroads, this is the OAC trip that gets more people hooked on climbing than any other. It's the perfect opportunity to push yourself and try something new.
This OAC activity is designed to introduce beginner climbers to the exciting sport of outdoor rock climbing — an adventure that delivers great fun, beautiful scenery, and both physical and mental stimulation. There’s nothing like the exhilaration of working your way up a rock face, then rappelling down like you’re dancing on the walls.
Indoor climbers, this is a great opportunity to take your gym skills and apply them to real rock! Castle Rock offers remote and incredible beautiful climbing in the 5.6-5.10 level. Castle Rock State Park has many climbing areas including the famed Goat Rock, Castle Rock, and the Waterfalls. Our guides will determine where you climb based on the level of the overall group.
This is a "Learn As You Play" adventure for beginners. It teaches you everything you need to know to get started rock climbing! You'll learn how to tie in to the rope, how to belay (keep your partner safe), plus a lot of climbing technique. The class is designed as a basic introduction to rock climbing, although experienced indoor climbers will also be challenged. There's a big difference between indoor and outdoor climbing! Our guides will introduce you to the equipment, terminology, safety system, and climbing techniques. The routes we'll be climbing are approximately 30-90 feet in height.
Why climb with the Outdoor Adventure Club?
In a word, or four, we are professional guides. We've been teaching the bay area to climb since 1996. Whether you are with Duane, Richard, Heather of Keegan you are spending the day with a guide trained by the American Mountain Guides Association, and certified as a Wilderness First Responder. Unlike some "adventure" groups, we don't contract out our climbing. We are your guides. Our focus is not only on taking you out and letting you climb, but setting up the safest climbing situations, and teaching you in a very patient, supportive and friendly manner. Besides safety, the OAC guides are knowledgeable of the climbing scene, and eager to help you develop your climbing skills.

Specific driving directions for the trip will come with your confirmed reservation.
Includes:
- Full day guided climbing and instruction for beginner climbers
- Professional guides trained by the American Mountain Guides Association
- All climbing gear including shoes, harness, belay devices, helmets, ropes
- A carpool list so you can arrange rides to the trip
You'll need to bring:
A recommended gear list will come with your confirmed reservation, but you should generally be prepared with the following:
- Clothes appropriate for the weather (it can be scorching hot and cold at Castle Rock, in the same day)
- Appropriate footwear to hike for a few miles throughout the day
- Lunch
- At least 2 liters of water

Non-members: $120

The Outdoor Adventure Club (OAC) operates with permission and special use permits from Castle Rock State Park, amongst others, and is a fully insured and professionally operated guide service.
